Buying textbooks for contract law.

Me: What's the returns policy on these?
Bookshop lady: You can't return the revision booklets.
    Me: Oh, really?
Bookshop lady: Yeah, because around exam time, students tend to use them for exams and just return them afterwards.

You saw a shirt for $97. You didn’t have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mum and $50 from your dad = $100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 change. You gave your dad $1 and your mum $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself. Now you owe your mum $49 and your dad $49. 49+49 = 98 + your $1 = 99. Where is the missing $1?

Basically once you took the money, you owe each parent $50.

You give $1 back to each of them, so now you owe them only $49 each and you have $1 left.

You should split this evenly between both parents (=50c) so now you only owe them each $48.50.

$48.50 + $48.50 = $97. That’s all you owe them, because that’s the cost of the shirt. The “missing dollar” (i.e. the one we just split into 2 x 50c and gave back) is what we are keeping.

If you didn’t pay them back anything, you’d owe a total of $100 still.

If you kept said dollar and only gave them back each $49, you’d only owe $98, correct.

    There.

Here’s me, all messy-haired and bright-eyed. This is actually the only good photo I’ve had taken of me for weeks. Taken with my Canon 7D and new Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6.

Who wants to be my surrogate?

I need to post something anonymously but don’t want it to be traced back to me.

If you want to help by posting it on your blog instead, I’ll send it to the first person who replies to this post.

In fact, I’ll send it to whoever replies. Might be something cute for your followers to read.

NB: It’s kinda long. But you’ll like it. It’s from the heart.

    Appreciate it.

I’m listening to my chubby flatmate bitch and moan and swear because she lost some weight recently. She hasn’t stopped complaining about every aspect: her clothes don’t fit, they look ugly, she spent a lot of money on her clothes, it pisses her off, she hates life. It made me think - people tend to find reasons to complain about everything, people who are so used to finding fault with every part of their lives. Even something as currently desirable as losing a little weight. When I dropped 2 stone in the first month of uni and weighed around 55kg (it’s all back on now) I relished going to the shop and buying a new pair of size 8 jeans but wearing all my old clothes because I love how loose they all were on me. I hope this girl finds peace with her life. She’s been causing a lot of problems around here with her inability to appreciate unconditionally.

    Re-solutions:

    1. Don’t eat less, eat enough but feel less guilty for doing so.

    2. Don’t study more, study enough but panic less that I’m not doing enough.

    3. Increase vitality. Do all the things that make me feel good and move more if I feel I don’t move enough.

    4. Better nurture my existing friendships.

    5. Develop a couple of my hobbies.
